Power of the Purse is an annual fundraising event benefitting the Brazos Valley Rehabilitation Center. BVRC is a nonprofit outpatient treatment facility dedicated to the mission of helping people with disabilities lead independent lives. Physical, occupational, and speech therapy services are provided by a professional, caring staff. BVRC is the only local source of charitable rehabilitation for children.
The Power of the Purse combines fun and philanthropy in the most inviting way; harnessing the literal power of our collective purses to do good, while shopping for a designer purse or fashion experience. This 10th annual Power of the Purse is on Friday, April 26, from 6 to 9pm. at the College Station Hilton. The event includes a live and silent auction, raffle, dinner, cash bar, and an anniversary champagne toast. This year’s event is emceed by Karla Castillo with KBTX.
The raffle sponsored by David Gardner Jewelers & Gemologists is a gorgeous David Yurman Châtelaine® pave bezel double drop earring with black orchid, black onyx, and diamonds valued at $2,900. Tickets are $20, or 3 for $50, and are available in advance of the event. You need not be present to win.
With a legacy of more than 60 years serving the community, BVRC continues to be the only agency providing services to patients (and their families) without regard to reimbursements or ability to pay. All the funds raised are used to provide charitable care to patients at the BVRC for their therapies.
“We are grateful to our loyal participants and welcome newcomers every year,” says Carol Binzer, event co-chair. “Once again, the purse models will be veterans, some of whom are students at Texas A&M University. They add a wonderful dimension to the support of this cause and bring enthusiasm to the bidding.” Additionally, patient ambassadors include two children and two adults, each who do a great job of reminding everyone of the differences BVRC can make.
Th
is year’s sponsors include: Davis and Davis Lawyers (Fred & Sue Ellen); David Gardner’s Jewelers & Gemologists; Briaud Financial Advisors; Kristi Fox Satsky, realtor of Century 21 Beal; the Bubba Moore Memorial Group; and Commerce National Bank — and the list is growing. Sponsor packets are available on the website at www.BrazosTherapy.org or by emailing Carol Binzer at cdbinzer@gmail.com.
“The needs of Brazos Valley continue to outpace the resources, both in terms of people that need care as well as the dollars that go to charitable giving and medical reimbursements,” says Binzer. The Power of the Purse helps compensate for this growing disparity.
