The local nonprofit heading the Queen Theatre restoration, the Downtown Bryan Association, is hosting a competition for Queen Theatre enthusiasts. The competition, which begins January 23, is open to the public for those who want to help save the Queen Theatre. The first three people who can sell 50 save the Queen cards will each receive an iPad mini.
The Queen card is a discount card valued at $20 that gives cardholders exclusive discounts at 16 participating downtown Bryan restaurants, shops and venues through December 1. Some participating downtown merchants include Good Time Charley’s, Mr. G’s Pizzeria, Grand Stafford Theater, The Children’s Museum, Downtown Uncorked, Art By Murder and Madden’s Gourmet. For a full list, visit www. savethequeen.org/queencard. All funds raised by the Queen cards directly support the save the Queen project, which has a goal completion date of late Fall 2014.
Those who want to participate in the competition are encouraged to call the Downtown Bryan Association office at (979) 822-4920 for more information. Participants must be 18 years or older, or have parental consent.
The Queen Theatre exterior restoration is nearly complete with only some exterior painting remaining. The interior has been completely gutted due to irreparable damage. The reconstruction of the interior will include a screen and a stage so that both cinema and live performances can take place.
