SEAD Gallery and Bookshop is hosting Texas photographer, Laura Pasket, during April First Friday. Her pop-up show, “Through My Lens”, will open on April 6 from 6 to 9pm.
Laura is a self-taught photographer who travels all around Texas and Illinois, photographing wildlife as a hobby. She captures wildlife, floral, macros, and landscape, with an emphasis on birds. Her mission is to go beyond the knowledge of exposure, pixels, and technology and simply find the beauty in nature, wildlife, and ranch life. She always strives to find and photograph subjects in their own habitats, putting the wildlife first, without disturbing their natural behaviors and practices.
Laura was born and raised in Rock Island, Illinois, and now resides in Anderson, Texas, with her husband, Anthony. As a child, her family took vacations to National Parks in the western United States specifically to view scenery and wildlife. These experiences inspired her appreciation and love of both nature and photography.
Laura has been published in Birdwatching Magazine and currently has some pieces hanging up at the Navasota City Hall building. Her memberships include the Texas PPA, NANPA, National Audubon Society, Brazos Audubon Society, and she currently holds the position of Secretary/Treasurer for the Brazos Valley Photo Club.
“The Illusion of Light: Watercolors by Monika Pate” will also be showing in the SEAD Gallery and Bookshop. Monika is a watercolor artist, fascinated by the visual effects of light on various objects. Her work captures the drama of light and shadow through transparent watercolor, where she is able to build color through layering. The final product creates “The Illusion of Light” and captures both the brilliance of color and the contrast between light and dark.
SEAD Gallery is located in the Federal Building at 216 W. 26th Street in Historic Downtown Bryan. SEAD Gallery provides a unique downtown venue for arts and cultural exchange.
