SEAD Gallery and Bookshop is excited to announce their partnership with the France/TAMU Institute to present French writer and philosopher, Pascal Bruckner. Mr. Bruckner will be discussing his book “The Invention of Islamophobia” on the evening of Oct. 5 from 6:30–8pm.
A French writer and philosopher from Paris, Pascal Bruckner is coined one of the “nouveaux philosophes”, or new philosophers. He studied at the universities of Paris I, Paris VII Diderot, and the École Pratique des Hautes Études before becoming the maître de conférences at the Institut d'Études Politiques de Paris.
His esteemed works include writings on the topics of multiculturalism, the concept of the “White Man’s Burden”, and other western ideals. Most famously, Bruckner is known for “Le Sanglot de l'Homme blanc," or “The Tears of the White Man," which has influenced other philosophers and writers, inspiring new trends of thought within the community.
Bruckner is the epitome of a modern French intellectual. His Parisian apartment is filled with books, he writes, lectures, makes regular TV appearances, and shares his opinions with those who listen. Yet, he also mirrors the 18th-century literary type, like Voltaire and Diderot, who often make appearances in his writing.
