SEAD Gallery in Historic Downtown Bryan is excited to host Evan Ballowe’s new exhibition “Deterioration Towards Perfection” in the Parlor gallery through March 11. The opening reception is on Thursday Feb. 16, from 6:30pm to 8:00pm during Downtown Bryan Art Step.
Evan Ballowe makes welded metal art that incorporates elements of glass and wood as inspiration dictates. He started welding while working in Equipment and Facilities for a small coffee roaster in upstate New York. Though he has done a fair number of “new-steel” projects, he enjoys seeing the potential beauty found in abandoned objects and creating something new and distinctive out of them.
Evan has used shards of glass, fallen and left-over wood, broken and worn Jeep, and espresso machine parts in his work. “Deterioration Towards Perfection” will feature desk lamps, standing lamps, a bench, free standing sculpture pieces, as well as a display of his photography. Evan Ballowe’s work manifests the idea that nothing that has been created ever loses its innate beauty of design, it only changes state.
