Downtown Bryan kicks off its Summer Sunset Concert Series at the Palace Theater on Thursday, June 2, with The Roomsounds. Drawing on influences such as the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and Tom Petty, Roomsounds is a band that has been described as the future of rock and roll by Rodney Hall of FAME studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Gates open at 7:30pm and the concert begins at 8pm. The concert is free and drink concessions will be available.
The Summer Sunset series features a different band each Thursday night in June, with two encore concerts in August.
"Offering these free concerts to the public each week fits in with our mission to promote Downtown Bryan as a showcase of culture and commerce," said Sandy Farris, executive director of the Downtown Bryan Association. "We introduced some great bands to the area during the concert series last year. Several of them are now on our regular rotation for First Friday bands, and always draw a big crowd," Farris said. Downtown merchants contribute gift certificates to be offered as door prizes during the concerts.
The Palace, a covered outdoor venue, has undergone renovations recently, with an expanded paved area, new landscaping and a cooling fan, thanks to donations by the Bryan Noon Lion's Club, the Gloria Sale Bryan Coca-Cola Beautification Foundation, and the City of Bryan.
EDIT:
The threat of rain on Thursday, June 2, has postponed the kickoff concert for the Downtown Bryan Summer Sunset Concert Series at the Palace Theater. The series will pick up on Thursday, June 9, at 8pm. A different band will be featured each Thursday night in June, with encore performances in August.
