Jim Singleton graduated from Texas A&M in 1968 and went immediately into the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot. When his military duties were completed, he returned to Texas to begin his lifelong career as a professional architect.
Realist artist and photographer Stephanie Sale represents the fifth generation of her family in Bryan and the Brazos Valley. She graduated from Skidmore College in 1968 and went to New York where she worked as a fashion model, Revlon consultant, and moonlighted as an independent graphic artist and painter. Later as a 20-year resident of Canada, she raised her two children, and painted and exhibited her art in galleries in Montreal and Toronto.
Jim and Stephanie became friends in 1964 but lost touch over the years until they met again in College Station in 1994. Two years later they married, and Jim opened a new office in B/CS. The couple quickly began to participate, professionally and as volunteers, in community life. Together, they were honorees by the Brazos Valley African American National Heritage Society in 2004; Citizens of the Year, B/CS Chamber of Commerce 2009; and Honorees of Community Foundation of Brazos Valley, 2010. Each has served on the boards of OPAS and the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra.
Stephanie Sale is a former president of OPAS and has served on Bryan’s Historic Landmark Commission, Downtown Bryan Association, and is currently a commissioner on the Bryan Business Council. Boonville Heritage Park and Sale Park have been projects of the heart for her. She was a Jefferson Award recipient in 2015. Beyond the Brazos Valley, she is a past president of the Texas Committee of the National Museum Of Women in the Arts and is currently on the National Board of Trustees of the Museum in Washington, D.C.
Jim Singleton, principal in SZH Architecture, has been involved in ongoing restoration efforts in downtown Bryan, notably, the Queen Theatre; the Brazos Valley African American Museum; Twin City Mission; Boys and Girls Club of the Brazos Valley; and the Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial. He was named an Outstanding Alumnus from the College of Architecture in 2012 and was honored as a Distinguished Alumnus of Texas A&M University in 2018. As a couple, Stephanie and Jim bring twice the energy, commitment, and passion to their involvements: it takes two to make dreams a reality!
