SEAD Gallery and Bookshop will host Teri Metcalf on Feb. 15 from 6:30pm to 8pm for the bi-monthly Author Talk series. Metcalf, who has written "Chicken Poop for the Soul: Backyard Adventures" and "Rambler Rose," will specifically be discussing her experience writing "Rambler Rose." "Rambler Rose" is a memoir about her childhood and coming of age in California in the 1940s, ’50s and ’60s. It's a tale of family relationships, American pop and political culture, and race and religion. It was recognized as the Best Autobiography of 2015 by the Texas Association of Authors, and it is a recommended read by the U.S. Review of Books.
Metcalf is retired after nearly 20 years of educational research and development at Texas A&M University. She has a doctorate in education from Texas A&M and a Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of California at Berkeley. She and her husband, Bob Presley, live in College Station. For her first 30 years, Metcalf lived in California where she grew up, went to school, and started a family. She then moved to Illinois where she focused on raising her family. After settling in College Station, she entered into retirement and found the time to write her memoir.
Metcalf’s first book, "Chicken Poop for the Soul," came out in 2013 and is about her and her husband’s recent experiences with backyard chickens and raising vegetables on their one-acre urban farm. When "Chicken Poop" received positive feedback, Metcalf was inspired to write Rambler Rose.
