Join the College Station Police Department and the Johnson Journey Benefit Committee in honoring the Johnson Family with a community-wide benefit luncheon.
A burger luncheon and bake sale will be held at Veteran’s Park Pavilion in College Station on June 21, from 11am to 2pm. Burger plates are $10 and include a hamburger, chips, tea, and a cookie.
A raffle and silent auction will also be held, with raffle tickets sold $5 for one or $20 for five. Advance tickets are available, and you do not need to be present to win. The raffle will be conducted by the College Station Police Officers Wives Association.
Larry Johnson, longtime College Station resident and former assistant police chief, received a kidney from LaRhesa Johnson, his youngest daughter, on February 6, at Baylor Scott & White in Temple. Both dad and daughter are now home and recovering one day at a time.
While Larry’s wait for a kidney has ended, his effort to fund this life-giving procedure is just beginning. Private and state insurance programs only cover a portion of the steep surgery costs. After surgery, he is faced with costs of at least $17,000 annually for anti-rejection drugs.
