The City of Bryan invites the public to learn about proposed improvements on William J. Bryan Parkway from Texas Avenue to Earl Rudder Freeway. The third and final meeting for the design phase of this project will be held on Thursday, Jan. 24, from 4 to 7pm at the First United Methodist Church Gym in Bryan. The project team will share recommendations for improving WJB developed through a unique collaboration between the City and community members.
Since late 2017, the city of Bryan and TxDOT have been working with the community to develop a plan to improve safety and mobility along WJB. Through a community survey, two previous public meetings, a design workshop, and many individual meetings, the team identified preferences and developed solutions that address safety and mobility while preserving and enhancing the character of this corridor.
“Solutions have been developed that address many of the problems people shared with us such as speeding, lack of safe sidewalks, and long back-ups at intersections,” says Paul Kaspar, city engineer. “Each proposed solution took into account the unique character of the roadway through different zones the community helped us identify.”
The meeting will function as an open house and community members are welcome to come and go at their convenience between 4 and 7pm. The city will have handouts, exhibits, and large maps which illustrate the proposals and will be available to share insights on how each element contributes to addressing the challenges identified by the community. “We are excited to present the outcomes of the collaborative process among city staff, TxDOT, and our community members,” shares Kaspar.
Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions and are encouraged to share feedback on the proposals which the team will review and consider as they finalize plans in coming months. Construction for improvements is not expected to begin until early 2021.
