On Sept. 3 Texas A&M’s Aggie Women Network – a Constituent Network of The Association of Former Students — will host their annual Women’s Leadership Reception, a celebration of women’s empowerment complete with hands-on professional development and discussion breakout sessions. This year’s theme, Leading Through Change, captures the spirit of the event which, for the first time in AWN history, will be hosted completely virtually via Zoom conference. The event is free to watch and available on Zoom and Facebook Live. The Women’s Leadership Reception fuses the organization’s commitment to providing mentorship and networking opportunities with the exciting accessibility offered by the new digital format. Those interested may head to the Aggie Women Network website to register for the event.
“We’ve built the Aggie Women Network to connect, engage, and give back to those who love Aggieland as we do and for that reason, we look forward to forging ahead with the Women’s Leadership Reception. In the face of the unpredictability that 2020 has brought for so many, it’s more important than ever that we share our insight and experience with others, holding the door open for
other women to thrive no matter the obstacle,” says Mary Hanel McDowell, 2020 AWN president and class of ’80. “We started the year strong with panel discussions and more, and as we adjust to the ‘new normal,’ we see this not as a barrier to our mission, but as an opportunity to reach an even wider audience.”
The program will feature three campus leaders including Dr. Christine Blackburn, deputy director of the Pandemic and Biosecurity Policy Program, Natalie Parks, vice president of communication for the Student Government Association, and Kayley Markos, 2020 muster committee chair. Following the keynote delivered by Dr. Blackburn, the reception will include a panel discussion spearheaded by the student leaders, a series of breakout networking sessions and a digital silent auction of incredible prizes including Kendra Scott jewelry, an Aggieland Outfitters basket, and an overnight stay at the Manor Haus bed-and-breakfast located at the Messina Hof Hill Country Property — just to name a few. The silent auction opens a week before the event, and winners will be announced at its conclusion. The silent auction items can be found here.
