The Blinn College District’s Adult Education and Literacy Department is offering a new leadership development program.
Blinn is the first college in Texas to offer the “Stepping into Leadership” program, says AEL Program Director Anthony Garcia.
“It’s a brand-new initiative,” says Garcia. “It was adopted from an AEL program in Arizona and we are looking for Blinn to be the pilot program to share with other programs in the state.”
Information sessions on “Stepping into Leadership” will be held via Zoom on Wednesday, Aug. 26, from noon to 1pm, and Thursday, Aug. 27, from 1pm to 2pm and 6pm to 7pm. Reservations can be made by calling (979) 209-7300 or contacting Garcia at Anthony.Garcia@blinn.edu.
The free eight-week program is available for students enrolled in Blinn’s AEL program. “Stepping into Leadership” sessions are tentatively scheduled to begin Sept. 14.
The goal of the program, says Garcia, is for personal development, mentoring, and leadership.
“The first phase is designed for self-discovery, goal-setting, communication, vision development, mentorship, and skills for success,” he says.
Jay Anderson, vice chancellor of the Blinn College District Health Sciences, Technical Education, and Community Programs, says it is an opportunity for AEL students to learn personal development skills.
“This leadership and personal development opportunity will empower individuals to remain focused on educational aspirations,” Anderson says. “This, in turn, will strengthen the foundation of career exploration leading to postsecondary award achievement. This is the path we want to pave for our AEL students.”
