The St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway is an opportunity for Bryan/College Station residents to give to the organization that extends a helping hand to families during one of the most difficult times in their lives.
The giveaway is a community effort where builders, brands and members of the B/CS community come together in one supreme effort of charity and goodwill.
Danny Thomas once said that he would rather have one hundred people give $1 than one person give $100. The St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway embodies that sentiment, explains Martha Vilas. People and businesses from around the community come together to make a family’s dream come true.
“We may not be doctors, nurses or therapists but we’re builders, painters and suppliers,” Martha says. “It’s really cool to see how we can use our tangible skills to make an impact.”
Partnering with local builders to receive donations or materials through trade partnerships is how Ranger Home Builders makes sure that all of the money made from selling tickets goes directly to St. Jude, says Caleb DeLuna.
When the house is nearly complete and all that remains is to add the finishing details and furnish the rooms St. Jude and their community partners get together to celebrate their hard work becoming a reality.
“We actually picked a wall in the garage where [partners] can come in and then paint your hand or draw your hand on the wall,” Caleb says. “[People will] leave messages, Bible verses, inspirational quotes, and other things like that.”
St. Jude invited their community partners like Ranger Home Builders, Bock Realty, Southern Pointe, Bullard and Browning Interior, KBTX and Insite to come and leave a handprint on the wall to represent “all hands on deck” and how many people it took to make this giveaway possible, Teresa Buscemi, senior program advisor of the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway, says.
“Tickets are officially on sale,” Teresa adds. “We’ve already sold over 400 and they’re going quickly. Thank you and enjoy [signing the wall]!”
