Opened in 1998 in Burton, TX by two Houston physicians and a father of a child with cancer, Camp For All is recognized as a national leader in creating and providing proven life-changing experiences through a passionate and professional staff, cutting-edge facilities and innovative programming. Camp For All is a unique barrier-free camp that helps children and adults with special needs or challenging illnesses discover life through learning what they can do, as opposed to what they can’t. It enriches the lives of approximately 10,000 children, adults, and families throughout the year through collaborations and partnerships with more than 65 other not-for-profits. Programming includes Camp For All 2U, the award-winning outreach program that brings activities and programming to hospitals, schools, and social service agencies.
Camp For All will host Over The Edge 2021, a fundraiser and rappelling event in The Woodlands. The annual rappel will take place on Saturday, April 17, with fundraisers rappelling over the edge of The Woodlands Tower, a 31-story office building formerly known as Hackett Tower.
Camp For All Goes Over The Edge 2021 will help support camp attendance for the approximately 10,000 campers that it serves each year at its 206-acre, barrier-free facility in Washington County. Participants are encouraged to create teams and fundraise to help them achieve their fundraising goals as they prepare to “go over the edge.” The family-friendly event will last all day, with the first rappellers gearing up as early as 8 a.m. Participants will rappel from the rooftop of the Woodlands Tower building down to the spacious 11th-floor Skydeck, for a 20-story descent. Friends and family of the rappellers will be able to cheer on participants from the Skydeck and greet them upon landing.
This year’s event is especially significant, as the organization recovers from the financial strain of last year’s pandemic-related closure that left Camp suffering a loss of over $2 million and forced it to cancel last year’s Over the Edge rappel. While 2021 has been far brighter with the safe return of several camps, the organization is eager to rebuild its presence within the community.
Camp For All aims to raise $150,000 through the annual fundraising event. “We’re so thrilled to finally bring our annual Camp For All Goes Over The Edge event to life after last year’s cancellation,” says Camp For All President and CEO, Pat Sorrells. "The challenges of the past year have shaken but not defeated the Camp For All spirit and we’re excited to use this event to support our mission of providing life-changing, barrier-free experiences for our incredible campers."
Camp For All Goes Over The Edge 2021 currently has space for 80 rappellers to participate. Those planning to rappel must fundraise $1,500 to secure their spots. Rappellers as well as their friends and family wishing to attend as supporters will be required to follow both The Howard Hughes Corporation® and Over The Edge social distancing guidelines including wearing masks and maintaining six feet distance within the 11th-floor Skydeck guest area.
Camp For All Goes Over The Edge 2021 is hosted by the Howard Hughes Corporation, a second-time partner with Camp For All. "We know that this partnership of Howard Hughes with Camp For All will bring a great result for the campers and their families," says Jim Carman, President, Houston Region for The Howard Hughes Corporation. "We are thrilled to join our friends at Camp For All and support this worthwhile cause."
