This Giving Tuesday, United Way of the Brazos Valley will celebrate by spreading the love of reading. All donations made on www.UWBV.org on Giving Tuesday, Nov. 27, will go towards United Way of the Brazos Valley’s programs to encourage the love of reading and provide access to books to children, teens, and young adults. Programs like Baby Bundles, which provides a free book to each new baby born in the Brazos Valley, and Book Bashes, pop-up free book giveaways during the holidays, will benefit from these funds.
Two-thirds of children living in poverty grow up with no books at home. Studies show that the number of books in the home is directly linked to reading achievement. Children who grow up with access to books in their homes reach a higher level of education. United Way of the Brazos Valley is tackling this issue to support early literacy for all children and you can join the cause by donating on Giving Tuesday at www.UWBV.org.
“Giving Tuesday celebrates the season of generosity by inspiring millions of people around the world to give back and support the causes they believe in,” states Alison Prince, president and CEO of United Way of the Brazos Valley. “As a mother to an active five-year-old boy, I know firsthand how much a child gains by reading. Supporting programs like Baby Bundles and holiday book giveaways is my way of encouraging a love of reading by providing access to books.”
Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities, and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday, this year’s Giving Tuesday will take place on Nov. 27 and will kick off the giving season by inspiring people to collaborate and give back.
