Coach Blair Charities: Celebration Dinner and Golf Classic by Insite BV Editorial Staff March 31, 2017 12:36 PM × Expand Courtesy of Coach Blair Charities Expand Texas A&M University women’s basketball coach Gary Blair will host the 14th Annual Coach Blair Charities Celebrity Golf Classic benefiting Special Olympics Texas and other local charities on May 5 at Traditions Golf Club in Bryan. The scramble format tournament has morning and afternoon tee times and a Celebration Dinner and Silent Auction presented by MacResource Computers on May 4 at 6pm at the Brazos County Expo Complex. The two events serve as one of the largest fund raisers for Special Olympics in the state. It marks the 24th year Blair has hosted a golf tournament benefiting Special Olympics. He hosted a similar event for 10 years while serving as the women’s basketball coach in Arkansas, and when he arrived in Aggieland, he started the tournament which is now in its 14th year. Each year, the tournament has surpassed its initial goals of fundraising. During its 13-year run in Bryan College Station, the events have raised more than $1.25 million for Special Olympics. Expand Blair insists the money raised locally benefits the local teams supported by Special Olympics and other local charities. The Celebration Dinner and Silent Auction will be open to the public. Tickets are $10 and available at C.C. Creations, Oldham Goodwin Group, Texas A&M Women’s Basketball Office, and at the door. All in attendance will receive a catfish dinner from Outback Steakhouse and drinks. A wide variety of items will be available in the live and silent auction such as dinners at area restaurants, sports memorabilia, jewelry, and many different items from local retailers. The tournament and celebration dinner are made possible through the support of Platinum Medal sponsors MacResource Computers, Chilifest, BB&T, Jack Hilliard Distributing, and VALIC Retirement Services.
