Walk away with a high-end purse at the 12th annual Power of the Purse fundraising event on Friday, April 30, from 6 to 9 p.m. to benefit the Brazos Valley Rehabilitation Center (BVRC). “Power of the Purse combines fashion with philanthropy in a fun-filled night of dinner and entertainment,” says the center’s Chief Executive Officer Alina Fifer. “It is a great way to shop, sip and visit while giving back to one of the longest standing nonprofits fulfilling a vital need in our community.”
The evening will be emceed by KBTX-TV anchor and reporter Karla Castillo and will include dinner; a live and silent auction of quality handbags, beauty and lifestyle items, and unique experiences; and a cash bar. The raffle winner will take home the night’s big prize — a 18K gold Venetian quatrefoil necklace with citrine and diamonds designed by David Yurman and donated by David Gardner’s Jewelers and Gemologists.
“The purse is the symbolic theme of the event; it is the figurative power of your purse, of your donation, that can change somebody’s life tomorrow,” Fifer says. This event highlights the center’s 64 years of service as the only freestanding local nonprofit that provides physical, occupational, and speech therapy to all families who live in the Brazos Valley. “All funds raised by Power of the Purse stay here in our community, ensuring that Brazos Valley Rehabilitation Center can help today and build a better future tomorrow,” she says.
Brazos Valley Rehabilitation Center was founded in 1957 by a group of mothers looking for nearby physical therapy options to support their children’s need. “We continue to be a beacon of hope and help to all in need of our services, irrespective of their insurance coverage or lack thereof, exhaustion of benefits, low reimbursement rates, and other factors preventing patients from accessing health care services,” Fifer says. “Where there is a medical need, we will find a way!”
Sponsorship opportunities as well as individual tickets are available for purchase. Appropriate COVID-19 precautions will be taken, and CDC guidelines will be followed during the event. For more information, visit brazostherapy.org.
