On May 16, you can be a part of the Salvation Army’s mission to do the most good for the Bryan College Station community. The Salvation Army hosts their eighth annual Doing the Most Good Luncheon at the Hilton College Station Hotel & Conference Center at 11:30am featuring keynote speaker Col. Michael E. Fossum.
This year the Salvation Army also celebrates 70 years in B/CS.
“[Travis B. Bryan] is the catalyst that helped get the Salvation Army started in 1949 after returning from WWII,” explains Captain Paul Ryerson, commanding officer of the Salvation Army Bryan College Station.
Those that attend the luncheon will get a chance to see the impact The Salvation Army has in the B/CS community, while raising money to support the cause.
“Hopefully when they come into the luncheon they are going to learn a little bit more about the Salvation Army that they didn’t know before,” says Ryerson. “And hopefully they just expect that when they attend our luncheon, that they know they are a part of doing the most good in their community. The money that we raise at that event all stays local. It stays right here to help our neighbors in need.”
In fact, 20 percent of the annual budget is raised during the annual luncheon, says Ryerson. Tickets to the luncheon are available online at www.salvationarmybcs.org until May 10.
“When I go on stage and I look out into the crowd, I can see the faces of those who are supporting our work — those who believe in what we do and they are present, they are there, because they actually want to do the most good,” says Ryerson. “They’re, as far as I’m considering, on the team making that a reality.”
