Since 2011 College Station and Bryan Lions Clubs have recognized local first responders with the Honoring Our Heroes Banquet. The College Station Noon Lions Club co-hosts the event, now held as a luncheon, with the Bryan Noon Lions Club. Along with honoring local police officers, fire fighters, and EMTs, the event also raises money for The 100 Club and local Lions charities.
At the College Station Noon Lions Club Aug. 12 meeting, 2019 Event Co-Chair Mary Jo Prince presented a check for $9,077.35 to William F. Skeen, executive director of The 100 Club. The 2019 donation marks more than $50,000 given by local Lions Clubs to The 100 Club.
The 100 Club provides financial support for families of first responders killed in the line of duty. Since 2010, The 100 Club has delivered funding to surviving families of four Brazos Valley fallen first responders. Those families received assistance for paying off debts as well as help with college scholarships for their children.
The 2020 Lions Clubs Honoring Our Heroes Luncheon is scheduled for Feb. 27 at the College Station Hilton.
