On Monday, November 13, 2023, the Department of Family & Protective Services, Voices for Children, CASA, members of the legal community and local non-profit organizations will host an event to celebrate children and families coming together through foster care adoption. Brazos County Adoption Day will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Brazos County Administration Building. Brazos County Adoption Day will celebrate the adoption of 5 children into 3 families. The community is invited to join us to celebrate these adoptions as well as the 40 children who have been adopted from DFPS care this year in Brazos County.
Each November, hundreds of communities across the country organize similar events in recognition of National Adoption Day, a collective effort to help raise awareness of the need to find safe, loving and permanent homes for more than 113,000 children waiting to be adopted from foster care in the United States. In Texas, at the end of fiscal year 2023, DFPS saw 4,153 children adopted, including 40 in Brazos County. Statewide there are still 2,245 children waiting to find permanent homes. Of the children available for adoption statewide, 64% are between the ages of 10-17, 25% are African American, 42% are Hispanic and 27% are Anglo.

About Voices for Children
Voices for Children is driven by its mission to improve the lives of children in foster care through powerful volunteer advocacy until each child is placed in a safe and permanent home. Voices for Children is the local CASA program serving the Brazos Valley (Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Leon, and Madison counties) with the goal of training volunteer advocates to amplify the voices of children in the child welfare system. Since its founding in 2000, Voices for Children has worked to recruit and train volunteers from the community to serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates for children in foster care. CASA programs are made of, and for, the local community. By giving financially, volunteering, or advocating for children involved in the child welfare system, everyone can help amplify the voices of children and ensure they are heard.
