More than 100 local volunteers have signed up to help assemble 3,000 baby bundles during United Way’s Annual Day of Action to be held on June 21 at the A&M Church of Christ. A baby bundle is a tote packed with a book, a handheld toy, and other helpful resources on child development and community resources that families receive through the labor and delivery departments of area hospitals just after the baby is born.
The Day of Action is an opportunity for communities to come together and tackle the issues that matter most to them.
“United Way is about bringing the community together to address community issues,” states Alison Prince, president and CEO of United Way of the Brazos Valley. “Day of Action is a perfect example of what can be accomplished in only a few hours when people from all industries come together with passion and dedication around a particular issue and take action.”
This year’s sponsors are coming together with United Way of the Brazos Valley to give the gift of reading and promote literacy at the earliest opportunity through Day of Action 2019. This year’s Day of Action supporters include The Dansby Grant Foundation, Wells Fargo Bank, Junior League of Bryan College Station, Texas A&M University Mays Business School, and the Bryan Independent School District.
United Way of the Brazos Valley fights for early literacy for all children as part of the 2020 Regional Bold Goals. United Way of the Brazos Valley is committed to ensuring that every baby born in the Brazos Valley has a book in their home by their first birthday. Studies show that children who grow up with books in their homes reach a higher level of education than those who do not.
United Way of the Brazos Valley fights for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in the Brazos Valley. They strengthen the community by identifying the Brazos Valley’s greatest issues, engaging individuals to build strategies, and investing in change. United Way of the Brazos Valley invests through Community Impact Grants to local nonprofit organizations and Investment Initiatives, including 2-1-1 Texas, Youth Leadership Cabinet, www.VolunteerBrazosValley.org, and the Financial Stability Innovation Fund to impact over 60,000 people per year.
