Texas A&M University’s Aggie Women Network announced Mary Jo Prince and Randi Mays-Knapp as this year’s recipients of the Legacy Award. The award honors trailblazing women who have achieved excellence and work to break down barriers for future generations. Recipients are selected based off of their impact as a mentor and service leader to Aggie women. Legacy Award recipients have gone on to receive the Texas A&M Distinguished Alumni Award.
As a passionate traffic safety educator, Mary Jo Prince currently serves as the program coordinator for the Brazos Valley Injury Prevention Coalition. Her career in marketing helped her develop essential communication skills, which she combined with her devotion to public service and mentorship.
“I am overjoyed to receive this award,” Mary Jo says. “I’ve dedicated myself to serving my community and helping agencies that share my mission to save lives, so it means a lot to receive the recognition.”
This mission guides her to volunteer and serve in leadership roles for organizations such as Scotty’s House Child Advocacy Center, Brazos County First Responders’ Association, the College Station Noon Lions Club, and more.
In addition to her Legacy Award, Prince was named one of KBTX-TV’s four “Jefferson Award” winners this year.
Randi Mays-Knapp began her journey as an entrepreneur after taking a break from her career in recruiting to raise her children. She works as a certified etiquette and leadership coach to help others develop effective social skills for professional and personal contexts.
“If you are an athlete, you work with a good coach to get better,” Mays-Knapp says. “In the business world, it is the same. When teaching, the classroom is my field, and the participants are my team.”
Coach Knapp is an active presence across Texas A&M, providing mentorship and guidance in the campus community. She currently serves on the Mays Business School Department of Marketing Advisory Council and previously served as a class agent (for nearly two decades) and as an area representative for the Association of Former Students.
Traditionally, the Aggie Women Network hosts the Aggie Women Awards Luncheon and invites the entire community to celebrate the award recipients. However, due to COVID-19, the Aggie Women Awards Luncheon will not be held this year, and 2020 recipients will be recognized at the 2021 event.
