The Friends of the Texas Historical Commission is celebrating 25 years of serving as the nonprofit partner to the Texas Historical Commission. They will be holding virtual events throughout 2021 to celebrate, and hope to host in-person events at the THC’s state historic sites later in the year.
They will host a free, virtual kickoff event at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, at the Magoffin Home State Historic Site. This event will be an interactive food history discussion and cooking demonstration. They will be making albóndigas, a meatball soup that’s perfect for the cold winter weather Texas has been experiencing. The recipe was written by Mrs. Octavia Magoffin and included in the E Paso Cookbook, published in 1898.
The recipe and list of required ingredients and supplies will be emailed to registrants prior to the event so that they may participate in their own kitchen.
