Have a day of fun you can feel great about. Join the Texas A&M University chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta for the annual Rock the Casa 5k and Silent Auction on April 12.
The sorority is committed to serving the community and raising funds for different philanthropies.
“We all participate in community service every semester. We often help at the Community Cafe, and we work with Scotty’s House and Voices for Children each time they host an event,” says Beth Armstrong, the promotions chair for the 5k. The sorority sisters never miss an opportunity to help where there is a need and are particularly passionate about serving the abused and neglected children of the Brazos Valley. Kappa Alpha Theta donates every penny of the proceeds to philanthropies.
Rock the Casa 5k and Silent Auction is Kappa Alpha Theta’s signature event. During 2013, the sisters set a goal amount for funds raised, and exceeded it greatly. This year, the goal is a monumental $73,000. “We want to exceed this goal. We met with the directors of Scotty’s House. They depend on the money we raise at our events. Collectively, we donate over $100,000 every year,” says Armstrong.
At Rock the Casa, participants will take place in a 5k run or a 1.5-mile walk. Runners and walkers should arrive at check-in between 8am to 9am. The silent auction begins at 9am and will last until 10:30am. Some of the items include David Gardener’s jewelry, a purebred lab, a weekend stay at a country bed and breakfast, and a trip to Palm Beach, Florida.
Armstrong says it is the Brazos Valley community that makes the event so successful. “Every little bit helps, we need everyone to come together to help our local children. This is in our own backyard, and it really does make a difference,” says Armstrong.
