With so many different types of coffee drinks and flavorings to choose from, some java lovers may have a hard time deciding what to order. The more adventurous may find that coffee flights are just the ticket for exploring something new and offer the chance to try menu combinations they might not try otherwise. Coffee flights provide the opportunity to sample smaller-sized coffee-themed drinks that may or may not be familiar to customers, much like a traditional wine or beer flight, and oftentimes, the drinks are made to taste like dessert. They can be either hot or cold and may be swapped out to reflect the season. So go ahead — grab a friend and take a seat at one of these locations offering flights in the Brazos Valley.
Get your Gogh Gogh on
Gogh Gogh Coffee Company rolled out its first flight last May, featuring four 5-ounce cold lattes from its signature drink list. Starry Night blends mocha and white mocha; Blossom is a lavender-flavored white mocha; Vin Cinnamon combines cinnamon, vanilla, and white mocha; and Café at Midnight is flavored with hazelnut mocha. Each drink includes a single shot of espresso, so four shots altogether. “Customizations include any of our four milk alternatives: almond, oat, coconut, and soy,” says Gogh Gogh Coffee Co. owner Evan Morrison, who adds drinks can also be made with sugar-free syrups and with or without whipped cream. Who’s most likely to order a flight? “Someone who’s never been here before, or people meeting with friends and wanting to try all of our options,” he says. The signature coffee flight is also available at Gogh Gogh Lounge on Texas Avenue in College Station. The basic flight without modifications is $8.75, including tax.

Find your way from Farmers to Market
“Coffee flights are an opportunity for coffee enthusiasts to broaden their coffee experience in a fun way,” says Brenda Farmer-Van de Walle, who owns Farmers to Market with her husband Nick. Farmers to Market changes its flights regularly and may include iced drinks with espresso, cold brew, nitro, and hot and blended-ice (frappes). The flights always include a chocolate-flavored coffee drink and a “wildcard,” Farmer-Van de Walle says. The wildcard, she says, is “definitely reserved for something not so ordinary.” Farmers to Market’s coffee flights for August are apple creme brûlée, mocha mint, watermelon matcha cold brew, and affogato. Affogato is an Italian dessert, and affogato means drowned in Italian, Farmer-Van de Walle explains. The drink is made with vanilla bean gelato drowned with a shot of espresso, drizzled with caramel, and topped with chocolate shavings. “This has been a wow on the flight,” she says. “The introduction of the flights has resulted in guests returning on another day to order full drinks that they might not have tried if not for the flight,” she says. Flights consist of four 8-oz. beverages, and prices range from $9.95-$12.95, depending on the tastings.
