On Wednesday, Sept. 1 at 5:30 p.m., Shipwreck Bar and Grill will celebrate their first mascot's inclusion in their Hall of Fame. Wienkie the Wonder Dog’s time as the first Shipwreck mascot for the past 10 years will be honored by placing a painting of him, painted by local artist, Amanda Murphy, on the wall at Shipwreck.
Wienkie was adopted by Arnold and Judy LeUnes as a Foster Fail in 2011 at the age of 8. After meeting Wienkie at Shipwreck, owner Mary Beckman stated she wanted Wienkie to be the official mascot of Shipwreck. He served loyally in that position for the past 10 years. Wienkie crossed the rainbow bridge in February 2021. During that month, he visited Shipwreck, though blind and deaf, yet still walked around on the deck one last time.
