As fall quickly approaches and you prepare for weather changes and football season, you want to be sure your home is up-to-date with the latest interior trends.
Restyling your home may seem like a daunting and expensive task, but with the right assistance you can be satisfied with your new look. Home interior designers from Holley’s Window Fashions & Interiors, DSI Interior Designs, and Jancy Ervin Interiors offer ways for you to spruce things up this fall!
Changing for the Season The leaves are starting to fall and the weather is changing, so it’s okay for your house to undergo some changes, too! One of the most important factors to remember in fall decorating is having a warm, inviting home for guests who may be coming for football season or upcoming holidays.
“As people prepare for guests to come they need to make sure their guest rooms are ready,” says Barbara Holley from Holley’s Window Fashions & Interiors. She also stresses the first thing a guest sees when walking into a home. “I just want to remind people of how important it is to have an inviting entryway into their home.”
While guest rooms and entryways are a great place to start, it’s not the only part of the house that may need attention. Both Desiree Engram from DSI Interior Designs, and Jancy Ervin agree that bathrooms and kitchens are just as important. Additionally, as the temperatures start to drop, don’t forget about outdoor spaces!
“People are wanting to go outside, and one thing that would make outdoor entertaining more comfortable is screen shades that you can raise and lower,” says Holley. “It can change the temperature by up to 20 percent.”
While updating your guest rooms and other elements of your home, consider what colors are best fitting for you this season. If you want to stay trendy, all three interior design experts agree that warm colors, greys, and whites are what’s currently hot. When in doubt, it’s always best to stick with something that translates well year-round.
“I think you need to embrace the trends only when you’re decorating with your finished items and wall colors,” says Ervin. “I think if you stick with the timeless and classic elements on things that will be staying permanently in your home you will be happier in the long run.”
When to Call a Professional Some people are better with their hands than others and may have the capabilities of doing a lot of their own home interior updates themselves, but when should you call a professional?
“As far as arrangement goes, especially if you’re doing a new remodel or a new house, then you should definitely call someone,” says Engram. “It’s really inexpensive to call a decorator or designer and it’s really worth it in the long run. Once you get into really ripping stuff out, unless you’re really handy, I would say call a professional because you’re just going to end up spending twice as much money if it gets messed up.”
It’s always better to be safe than sorry, especially when it comes to the look of your home. There are many things that might be beyond your expertise and these are the jobs decorators are here for.
“One thing that you do need a professional for is upholstery, and most window treatments require a specialist,” says Holley.
However, there are also things within your home that you may be able to change on your own, no expert necessary.
“A lot of people like found objects, instead of going down to the local department store and buying cabinets,” says Engram. “They want something unique and interesting and that can always be done by themselves.”
Of course, it all depends on how comfortable and confident a person is in their work. “If you can sew then get that fabric and make those throw pillows,” says Ervin.
No matter what you decide, make your home a reflection of yourself, whether that is through following the trends or adding in new, timeless elements. Don’t be afraid to call a professional for help or to change things up this fall!
