The TRI Aggieland Kids Triathlon is on Sunday, June 24, at 6 a.m. The Olympics are coming up, but you don’t have to hop the pond over to London to see elite athletes compete for a medal. This Sunday, anyone on the Texas A&M University campus will be hit with a wave of future Aggies showing off their athletic prowess during the 2nd annual TRI Aggieland Kids Triathlon. Raising money for The Children’s Museum of the Brazos Valley, kids ages 6 to 15 will compete to win in several different categories. Good news for those 16 and older: a new adult sprint triathlon will be taking place on July 15.
The community is encouraged to come out to cheer the kids on this Sunday, and those who want join the fun can still sign up for the adult sprint triahlon. While it is the second year for the kid’s triathlon, this is the first year the event has been expanded to include an adult competition. The adult triathlon sprint on July 15 will consist of a 400-meter swim in the Texas A&M natatorium, a 12-mile bike race through campus and College Station, and a 5k run through the Texas A&M campus, which includes a detour through Kyle Field. The deadline to register for the adult sprint triathlon is July 10.

A corporate relay division will allow teams of three people to compete against other businesses as one team member swims, one bikes, and another runs to complete the course. All proceeds from the event will benefit The Children’s Museum of the Brazos Valley, a local nonprofit, including the museum’s Healthy Kids initiative that has gained national recognition with its fight against childhood obesity.

TRI Aggieland Kids Triathlon, sponsored by University Pediatrics Association, kicks off Sunday, June 24, at 6 a.m. Yout h ages 6 to 15 will swim at the Texas A&M Recreation Center outdoor pool, bike on campus roads that will be closed to car traffic, and run through campus. Kids ages 9 to 15 will also run through Kyle Field.
Proceeds benefit The Children's Museum of the Brazos Valley. The growth of triathlons in the United States has skyrocketed in the past 10 years with the youth segment leading the way. TRI Aggieland Kids Triathlon will introduce kids to a multi-sport event in a safe and positive environment with each participant receiving a T-Shirt and finisher medal. The race will feature professional chip timing and will be sanctioned by USA Triathlon with awards going to the top three boys and girls in each age group.
