The Leapfrog Group, a national hospital rating organization, has assigned a quality grade of B to CHI St. Joseph Health. The Fall 2019 rating marks the second consecutive time the hospital has earned a B rating.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses national performance measures from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the Leapfrog Hospital Survey and other supplemental data sources. Taken together, those 28 performance measures produce a single letter grade representing a hospital’s overall performance in preventing medical errors. The Leapfrog Group ranks 2,600 hospitals twice annually.
To maintain its B rating, CHI St. Joseph Health continued its focus on process/structural and outcome measures. Process measures evaluate how CHI St. Joseph Health gives recommended treatments for a medical condition or procedure, while structural measures assess the environment in which a patient receives care. Outcome measures represent what happens to a patient while receiving care, reviewing the steps the team takes to promote a safe and healing environment.
“Our team is committed to a culture of safety, where we work to continually improve our processes for the benefit of our patients,” said Theron Park, CHI St. Joseph Health President and CEO. “Our B rating from The Leapfrog Group supports everything we are doing here to avoid mistakes and provide the safest care possible.”
